International Peace Day GANDHI PEACEWALK (GPW) Stories From The Road
Dear readers, today, Sept 21 is International Peace Day. We headed out to the New Life Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque to join the Peace Day celebrations. A weee miracle before I tell you about the days activities. I put my wallet on the back of the truck and drove 80 miles before I realized what I had done. After some Non -Gandhi behavior I decided to drive back and look for it. I figured it was probably not too far from the departure point. About 18 miles from the town the little voice within started telling me to look by the side of the road for my wallet. I thought it was futile but what the heck, nothing to lose. Fifteen miles from the town I saw something on the highway and I told my friend to remind me to stop there on the way back, but again the little voice said, "go back, go back." So I made an illegal u-turn on the highway and drove back and there sitting on the side of the road was my wallet. Well I couldn't believe it. A needle in a haystack or just luck of the Irish? My license and some money were gone from it but all my credit cards and other important information was all there. LESSON: Trust that little small voice from within and don't leave your wallet on the back of the car :)
Now for International Peace Day. It started with Sunday service at the New Life Presbyterian Church. Pastor Kay Huggins gave a beautiful service on the Power of Love. There were no pews in this church, instead they had round tables (King Arthur would have loved it) where everyone sat around and got to know each other. I normally sit at the back of the church next to the exit but not today. During the service the Pastor asked people, what is in your Heart? Everyone said things like friendship, service, joy and of course peace. Not one person said they wanted a house, car, or anything material. Imagine that!!
After the service we set up the tables and chairs for the event and Kay bought lunch (veggie sandwich on honey oat bread) for us all. We had people from the Islamic, Jewish, Catholic, Presbyterian, and Buddhist communities all coming together for one purpose :PEACE. It was so nice to see how one common goal can unite people. In essence this is how Gandhi helped the people of India gain their Independence from Britain in 1948. We went around to the different groups and talked about the Gandhi Peace Walk and asked them to share what they were doing. Everyone was so passionate about promoting Peace. It was great to be around such positive energy. The day was a huge success and we were offered so much help in organizing our Oct 5th Peace Walk. On the front of the bulletin page of the Sunday service was a poem from a little girl in Sarajevo. We wanted to share part of it with all of you. "A shot rings out from a nearby hill. We hurry though it's only nine o'clock, we might be hurrying towards a grenade marked "ours." An explosion rings out in the street of dignity. Many people are wounded. I reach out to touch a trembling, injured hand and I touch death itself. Terrified, I realize this is not a dream, it's just another day in Sarajevo." Edina, age 12 from Sarajevo Well dear readers that's all for now. I hope your Peace Day was a beautiful experience, of course we dont need an International day of Peace to practice peace, It's an everyday event. Peace and Truth, Dermot aka. Gandhi Rollingstone

 | PURPOSE OF PEACEWALK
1. Create Peace within ourselves and on Earth
2. Plant trees to reduce global warming
3. Build a Community Center in India
| We invite you to promote peace within yourself and in your Communities.
WE ARE INVITING EVERYONE WHO HEARS ABOUT US TO JOIN OUR PEACEWALK.
Thru tv, radio, internet, peace concerts, and environmental discussions we will educate communities on simple ways to help heal the Earth while inspiring people to create more PEACE inside so we do not create more WAR outside. Wouldn't it be nice to live in a world that is environmentally sustainable and where Peace is not just something you see on the back of a bumper sticker but is an everyday reality. This can be our future only if enough of us begin to act NOW.
We invite you to help spread the word, Dermot
