Introduction Beginning May 17th 2008 and ending in Washington DC on April 11th 2009
Mission Statement Peace In Ourselves, Peace In The World. If we want to create more peace in this world we must first come to an understanding that peace begins from within. It starts with us. I want to inspire others by the clarity of my own example. I am inviting people to think about what peace means to them and how they can create more of it in their own lives.
Purpose of the walk 1. To inspire others to create peace within themselves and on Earth 2. Plant trees to reduce global warming 3. Build a community center in India Description of project The Gandhi Peace walk will start May 17th 2008 from the Pacific Palisades and end April 11th 2009 at the steps of the White House in Washington DC. This entire journey will be done on foot with a support vehicle towing a pop up tent trailer with food and supplies. Monthly running costs are between $2,800 - $3,000. Completion time is approximately 8 months at a distance of 15 miles per day, 6 days a week, and 2,900 miles in total with Sundays off to do administration and PR work. We will be talking to people along the way about peace and the environment. And asking the question, What can we do to create more peace in our own lives? We will visit schools, colleges, and Yoga centers offering peace concerts and talks about Gandhi’s life and how his practice of Non-Violence to the self and others is so important in this time and space. We will screen Sir Richard Attenborough’s movie Gandhi at prisons inviting inmates to discuss the film and ending with a peace meditation. I will teach people a simple five minute gratitude meditation in all of the above locations and more. We will interview local political and spiritual leaders in each state about peace and global warming and find out what they are doing to help educate and inspire people to take an interest in the environment and in peace. I will visit children’s hospitals with my leprechaun hand puppet Sheamus and educate the kids about these issues in an entertaining and silly way. Our intention for this walk is to talk to as many people as possible about peace and the environment and inspire positive change by being an example of that change. I want to raise awareness about the need for more peace in the world by sharing my experiences of finding my own while walking across America. We will also educate people on the environment and what we can do to reduce global warming. I want to walk away from this journey knowing I did my absolute best in creating more peace in my own life and that I inspired others to do the same. I want to feel and know that I have helped to reduce global warming by inspiring and educating others in understanding that their actions have an effect on the environment and that they can create a sustainable future and a positive change by making the right choices now. I am seeking to raise over one hundred thousand dollars to be used to plant seventy thousand trees or more (one dollar per tree) with the remaining thirty thousand to be used to build an eco friendly community centre in India. This center will be used to educate the local children and villagers in organic farming, facilitate higher learning in subjects such as English, art, music, yoga and meditation. The little village of Soro, has been facing extreme poverty and floods. We are coming together to help them get by and build a community center for the village. Here is an image of the future center...
